12 Dutch Universities in the World's Top-500 Universities

An assessment carried out by AllAboutUni.com found that Dutch universities do very well in the World's Top-500 universities. AllAboutUni.com is an independent, global and interactive website where visitors can obtain information about universities (global rankings, student reviews, university news and campus pictures).

The analysis is based on a ranking of the World's Top-500 Universities produced by the Institute of Higher Education at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Several indicators of academic or research performance are used to establish the ranking, these include staff winning Nobel Prizes, highly cited researchers and articles indexed in major citation indices.

There are 12 Dutch universities in the World's Top-500 universities (2008): University of Utrecht (ranked 47th), University of Leiden (76th), Free University of Amsterdam (101-151), Amsterdam University (101-151), University of Groningen (101-151), Delft University of Technology (152-200), Erasmus University (152-200), Radboud University Nijmegen (152-200), University of Wageningen (152-200), University of Maastricht (303-401), Twente University (303-401) and Eindhoven University of Technology (402-503).

Comparison with the World's Top-500 Overall,
the World's Top-500 universities are mainly located in Europe (n=210; 40%), the Americas (n=190; 40%) and the Asian/Pacific region (n=100; 20%). The Netherlands, with 12 universities, represents 2% of the total universities in the World's Top-500 universities. If one adjusts for population size (i.e. one calculates the number of universities in the Top-500 per 1 million inhabitants in the country), the Netherlands performs very well compared to other industrialised countries. The countries with the highest number of universities per million inhabitants are the smaller countries in Western Europe (Sweden (1.2 universities in the World's Top-500 Universities per 1 million inhabitants), Finland (1.2), Switzerland (1.0), Austria (0.9), Norway (0.8)) and (Israel) (0.8). The Netherlands comes into the next group of countries with 0.7 universities per million inhabitants (this group includes Denmark, Australia, Hong Kong and the UK). The number of US universities per million inhabitants is 0.5.

Comparison with the World's Top-100universities
Universities in the US clearly dominate the World's Top-100 universities, with 58 universities. There are 23 European universities, of which two are Dutch (the Universities of Utrecht and Leiden).

Age
The median age of the 12 Dutch universities is 112 years, ranging from 32 years (University of Maastricht) to 433 (University of Leiden). Many of the Dutch universities are young, with six of the 12 universities aged less than 100 years.

Endowments
Endowments can play an important role in the operating budget of universities, as demonstrated by the AllAboutUni.com assessment of the world's Top-25 universities. Only one of the 12 Dutch universities reported an endowment on Wikipedia [accessed 22 November 2008] and this was the Delft University of Technology (€460 million in 2007). This is a relatively small amount in comparison to the World's Top-25 universities whose median endowment is $5.9 billion.

Conclusions
The overall performance of Dutch universities compared to the rest of the world is very good. Despite not being represented in the World's Top-25 universities, they have a very good overall performance with a high number of universities per million inhabitants in the World´s Top-500. Another positive point is that many of the Dutch universities are young and have progressed to the World's Top-500 universities over a relatively short time period. The strong overall performance of Dutch universities is probably associated with factors like the good management practices, the high level of public (and private) funding available to Dutch universities and the long academic tradition that exists in the Netherlands.

Review Success University

Has anybody made money using and promoting Success University and if so what advice can you offer to help newcomers achieve the same success you have? This question that was asked to some of the Online Affiliate giants and this was some of there responses we got.

The first couple of months that I was in Internet Marketing I promoted Success University only, at present I earn a respectable four digit residual Income from Success University, and with the money I make I reinvest it in an other affiliate programs one of them is the very popular and very profitable Plug in profits program (PIPS). It's entirely your decision if you decide to promote Success University but if you do - go for it. Allot of big earners in online affiliate marketing make 5 digits monthly incomes you just have to want it enough and decide to put in the time and effort.

Allot of people find it hard to make that first investment into Success University but once you get passed that the long term gains are huge, I would never stop promoting or being a student at Success University I learn and earn more with this program than I do with all my other products combined. If you make the leap into affiliate marketing this is a very good program, just stay motivated and focused.

If you are focusing on your future and not looking to make a quick buck promote Success University, you need to understand you are building an empire that can pay you for the rest of your life so it will take some time to build it up, I would say between 6 months to a year. Once you understand this you are all set to make money in this business.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that you can make money in this business.
The problem with it is that like most Multi level marketing programs people believe that they are going to make heaps of money very quickly and when this does not happen they tend to drop out after a few months. The big boys make the business look easy but as a newcomer you need to maintain your consistency in promoting the business. Keep at it and you will not regret it.

If you are now starting out in affiliate marketing a great program to join is the Success university program. If paying the monthly fee is your biggest problem, simple look at it as an investment that will pay off within 6 months down the road, you will be surprised how quickly six months will pass. Trust me you get out what you put in, so invest the time that you need to make Success University be a success. My biggest fear in this business is not having enough time to do what it is I need to become even more successful.

These were some of the answers that we got hope it helps you in your new business venture. If you would like more information on Success University check out the attacked link.

Newcastle University Lose Out to Durham in Tyne-wear Boat Race

Newcastle University has been beaten by Durham University in the 12th annual Tyne-Wear Boat Race. Durham University won all four events in the race, which consisted of the Freshmen’s Eights, Freshwomen’s Eights, Senior Men’s Eights and Senior Women’s eights.

The two teams were blessed with fine weather for the annual event, which was watched by thousands of spectators who lined the 1,800m course along the River Tyne. Colin Blackburn, chairman of the boat race executive committee, said that the sunny weather had managed to make the event an unforgettable one. He said: "It has been a very good day. The fine weather has brought a lot of people out to watch the University Boat Race, and it didn't disappoint."

Mr Blackburn said that Newcastle had a very "difficult task" in facing Durham University, as he believed that the team’s rowers "are the best in the country." Professor Chris Higgins, Vice-Chancellor of Durham University, echoed this sentiment and said that his students were "remarkable" rowers. He said: "Our students are truly remarkable in the sport of rowing, and I am very proud of them. We have won the British Universities rowing championship for the last four years, and of course they have represented Durham spectacularly well here today."
Durham University Boat Club is a strong team with a great record of winning the annual Tyne-Wear boat race, which is now in its twelfth year. In addition to this year, the team has managed to win all four events in the race twice previously. The first time they managed to do this was in 1997 race - the first of this annual event - and they managed to do it again in 2004.

President of Durham University Boat Club Rob Stark was delighted with his team’s win. He said: "It's fantastic to have won all four races. I'm particularly pleased that the Freshmen and Freshwomen won their races, because it signifies that we have a very bright future. The results are testament to the strength and depth we have in our squad, and I'm absolutely thrilled with their performances."

Professor Chris Brink is Vice-Chancellor of Newcastle University and was attending his first Tyne-Wear boat race this year. Despite his team losing, Mr Brink said that the race had been an "enjoyable event." He said: "These are the top two rowing universities in the country, and so there is certainly no shame in coming second. This has been a most enjoyable event, and I am pleased to see so many people participating in the spectacle."

Newcastle University’s team were said to be "disappointed" about their loss, but determined to try harder next year. Dan Cupit, who is president of Newcastle University Boat Club, said: "Obviously we're disappointed, but that's the way it goes, and we'll be back next year more determined than ever."

You are One With the Universal Mind

There is a single, intelligent Consciousness that pervades the entire Universe - the Universal Mind. It is all knowing, all powerful, all creative and always present. As it is present everywhere at the same time, it follows that it must also be present in you - that it is you. Your mind is part of the one Universal Mind. This is not simply a philosophical ideal passed down to us through the ages. It is an exact scientific truth. Know it, believe it, apply it and you will see your life transform in miraculous ways.

Albert Einstein told us that "everything is energy"; that "a human being is a part of the whole called by us [the] Universe". His words echoed the most ancient of spiritual and philosophical teachings and still underpin today's cutting-edge scientific discoveries. The Universal Mind goes by many names. In the scientific world we know of the Unified Field, in spiritual philosophy we refer to The All or Universal Consciousness and in religion we call upon God who Himself goes by many names - Jehovah, Allah and Brahman to mention but a few. The name is relevant only in so far as it resonates with you.

Any which way you cut it, you come to this one unavoidable conclusion: there is but One Consciousness of which your consciousness must be a part and "a part", as Charles Haanel said, "must be the same in kind and quality as the whole, the only difference being one of degree".

The nature of the Universal Mind is Omniscience (all knowing), Omnipotence (all powerful), Omnificence (all creative) and Omnipresence (always present). Know that this too is your nature. You have access to all knowledge, known and unknown; you have access to an infinite power for which nothing is impossible; you have access to the limitless creativity of the One Creator. All these attributes are present within you at all times in their potential form.

It is up to you to know and act upon your own nature. The inscription on the Ancient Greek Temple of Apollo at Delphi left no room for misunderstanding: "Know thyself and thou shalt know all the mysteries of the gods and the universe". It is through the power of your subconscious mind that you can learn to align yourself with the Omnipotence, Omniscience and Omnificence of the Universal Mind at all times.

Each and every one of us is a manifestation of this single Universal Consciousness. There is profound truth in the ancient teaching that we are all One. We are all connected - not only to each other but to all of Nature and to everything in the Universe. This is the Law of One. What you do to others, you do to yourself. The way you treat Nature, you in fact treat yourself. The separateness you "see" is an illusion of the ego. The true nature of reality is non-dualistic, meaning that while things may appear distinct, they are not separate.

You are able to create your ideal reality because you are already connected to everything you desire. Nothing and no one is separate from you. You can experience happiness, true love, perfect health, abundance, wealth and anything else you desire. All you have to do is bring yourself into vibrational harmony with the nature of your desires through the creative power of your thoughts. To become the master of your destiny, you must master your thoughts.

In a nutshell, there is a single Consciousness, the Universal Mind, which pervades the entire Universe. It is all knowing, all powerful, all creative and always present everywhere at the same time. Your consciousness is part of it - it is It. All is One. You are connected to everything and every one. You are already connected to your desires. To the degree you truly comprehend and internalise this Truth, you will be able to become the master of your mind and the director of your life.

Universal Studio - A "Must Visit" Place For Everyone

Universal Studios has become more popular each year and is known around the world. With its vast array of attractions and rides it appeals to people of every age and interest. It started in the U.S.A., but now has a global location.

How Universal Studio Came To Be

The first Universal City was officially opened in 1915 in Hollywood, CA. A man by the name of Carl Laemmle had a vision and is the one credited with giving Universal its place on the map. Before the first Universal City opened in 1915 Lawmmle's start in the studio business began in 1906 in Chicago. This is when the first Nickelodeon theater opened and gave Laemmle his vision for the great Universal Studios.

In the beginning, Universal Studios was strictly aimed at developing the television and film industry. The Studio didn't evolve into more of a tourist attraction until it opened its Orlando, FL location. The Florida location was an immediate hit and named the best theme park in the world. Not bad for what started as a purely functional studio atmosphere. After the Orlando success, Japan opened a Universal Studios in 2001 that was even bigger and better.

So What Can One Do At The Studios?

Each studio has its own draws and specific attractions. Depending on location, your experience will vary.

  • Florida

This is one of the more popular studios to visit. It houses two amusement parks, incredible rides and enthralling attractions. One of the current popular rides at the Orland location is the 'Incredible Hulk Coaster.' This coaster is for the daredevil in the group. It whips around at speeds up to 67 mph. An attraction that truly entertains all ages is the 4D Shrek ride. This ride takes off from the original Shrek film and allows you to be a part of the action with the ability to not only see and hear, but feel what is going on.

Since this is not Disney you won't see Mickey or Minnie, but you will see other animal actors running and frolicking about to entertain the children. The actors have mixed performances, which include live animals; funny videos and they even ask the audience to participate!

  • Japan

As the baby in the group, the Japan Universal Studios has catered to shoppers by developing attraction boutiques and numerous dinning options. But not to disappoint, it has its fair share of entertaining rides and attractions.

An exclusive attraction to the Japan Universal Studios is 'Animation Celebration.' Children are spellbound as the creation of "Woody Woodpecker" comes to life right before their eyes.

The Japan location actually has a number of exclusive rides and attractions. For the amusement park buff, a visit to the Japan Universal is promised to captivate!

As a family vacation, Universal Studios deserves an A+. The studios have achieved the delicate balance of developing a park that offers intriguing attractions for the kids, thrill-producing rides for the teens and thoroughly entertaining attractions for the adults. A trip to the studios is well worth it and is sure to delight.

Summary:

If you are planning a family vacation, a trip to Universal Studios could take you to not only Hollywood and Orlando, but Japan! As far as amusement parks go, it's hard to beat a park that was named 'Best Park in the World.' Not only will your family be entertained, but they may just learn a little something about the magic of movies.
